got a virus...

well, i was searching google for a serial/keygen for a program, and i got a virus from one of them.

as you can see, next to the clock is has the words "VIRUS ALERT!".

and it also takes out a few buttons on the start bar. (My Computer, My Documents, Recent Documents, etc...)

any suggestions?

Scan your computer with a Anti-Virus. From that, we can't tell anything.

what you can also do is, take the infected file, and go to virustotal.com and scan it and post the results on here.

If it is zipped, in a .rar form, just take out the file, and upload and scan at virustotal.com

woops, i kinda accidentally deleted the file...

btw, virustotal automatically unzips the files that it scans.

EDIT: fixed it... btw, can anyone with windows XP post a list of everything they have on the left side of the menu. (the one you see when you press start.) it looks like there is still two things missing.

EDIT: fixed.. mods please close.

there's a new virus today..
it does the same as what happend to you. and puts a big red pic that says your computer is infected then directs you to anti virus2008 and hides all your hard drives

What's weird is why would a program say "Virus Alert" when instead it can try to fake messages making it seem like they came from windows, THEN giving you more viruses... hmm... Btw, when you still had the virus, would Windows Key - E and Windows Key - R work?

Is that AVG the Free Edition or Professional? Either way if I were you I'd uninstall that shlt and get something descent like Kaspersky, NOD32 or BitDefender.
