first of all hi. I would suggest you to start to study a tutorial whatever it is video/text.just a simple tutorial which is a general guide to c++.then start to get into details by inspecting source codes from every GNU project program ( open source ones). then learn how to use syntax to code in better way .only knowing the syntax of a programming language is not enough at all.you have to know how to use it. so dont forget start studing source codes and create something outta your mind by your creativity dont follow the common routine that every one follows try to invent. i hope you get what i try to understand if you want simple tutorials on c++ i can give you link. take care

Yeah, books are general the best.. C++ doesn't really change, and for information on libraries and other extensions, you can find a tutorial online. You don't exactly have to pay for books *disclaimer* not that I'm endorsing the illegal downloading of books through torrenting or any other downloads, I'm just giving you the facts
;D. Yeah the high school classes suck, I wouldn't even bother taking the grade 12 one if it wasn't required for most good comp sci universities

I started with books, then hated that book I was using, then went to video tuts and learned a lot, then went back to an easier book, learned that book, and now I'm on another book.
Btw, if you want the book i'm using, PM me.

I think books are good for a solid thing like C++, especially if you're just starting programming (or have only coded in scripting languages or the like). If you've programmed before, then books might be a bit slow.
