I tried to start up my computer one morning and got the "missing/corrupted hal.dll" error. I tried safe mode, fixing boot.ini, and restoring hal.dll from the XP boot CD, but none of that worked. So I decided to reformat my computer with XP SP2.
It doesn't shows the error screen anymore, but it doesn't even go it. The XP logo screen never shows, instead a black screen pops up. I tried f8, but none of that options work. It'll show a black screen for 1 minute, then shut down itself.
May I have some assistance please?

when you start your PC ( at the first startup ) press F8 and choose ''Run the last know good configuration'' not safe mode and tell me what happens.

I had already tried that. None of the options there worked for me, it shows a black screen for 1 minute then shuts off.

Change the bios to boot from hard drive first, make sure your monitor is plugged into the computer properly, make sure the graphics slot is in the motherboard properly.
And try a bios reset if all above fails.
