So its up to you. Intel is more budget, but AMD is probably better.

Q6600 and the AMD 9850 spec and performance wise are very closed match but....The Q6600 can be over clocked by 40% (I'm running my at 3.2GHz avg voltage (1.45v) and air cooling. That runs around 42C at full load.
I have read about the 9850 and most people say it get unstable around 2.8GHz.
There is a site that compare the two (i didn't read it >.>) Legion Hardware
Anyways....With a $1500 budget "I" would go with the Q9550. If Q6600 can get close to the 9850 or beat....The Q9550 will blow it away
BTW. If you want a for future proof pc...I would get a motherboard with PCI-E 2.0 and SLI. It might be more expensive but..graphic card one of the fastest components to go "out of date" With SLI you can buy and another graphic card with the same GPU in the future and almost double the graphical preformance.
EDIT: Don't compare GHz to GHz with intel and AMD. 1GHz of AMD processor does not equal 1GHz of Intel. I was told the clocking works differently with the two companies. Also cashe makes a big difference in preformance as well.

If you would settle for a laptop, get the Gateway P-7811 FX.Their zero point specs are a 2.6GHz core 2 E6700, 2GB Ram, 80GB HD, GeForce 8600M, and Vista. I saw their tests, Premier Pro was 12% slower to load, Photoshop and Proshow were around 25% faster, MainConcept was slower by about a minute, and in both games they tested, the Gateway blew it open. Maximum PC gave them a 9/10 verdict (Only time they gave a 10/10 verdict was for WinXP lolz)
Full specs:
Intel 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo Mobile P8400
4GB DDR3/1066
200GB Seagate Momentus (7200rpm)
GeForce 9800N GTS
EDIT: Oh yeah, $1400

I got a better idea, i recommend u to just steal the alienware spec, coZ they made a good match among their hardwares. Alienware is very costly to compare with my idea...

you've got a tight budget here, but you still can get a rather above average decent com. Don't bother about alienware. they are just things like gucci etc. Just paying like 10x more to buy the brand. I don't really recommend my friends into getting AMD processors, i'm not really into amd products. I'm currently using a Q6600 OC-ed to 3.6ghz, i dont really recommend you getting quad core for games yet as not much games fully utilize the quadcore technology, if you are comparing games like cod4, cs, halflife, tf2, etc, i suggest you getting duo cores as they are cheaper and they get better performance out of current games. if u want more of my opinions i'd be glad to give them to you ^^ good luck on your new pc

Firstly, I'd like to know what your budget is. The man stated that it was $1.5K
However, I'll recommend the following set-up:
Quote:
AMD Phenom X4 9750 2.4GHz Quad Core - Sorry but AMD Quads suck (I AM AN AMD USER, the reason why i prefer intel quads is because of easy overclocking) Go for a Q6600,Q9450, or QX9775 (that cost $1.5k+)
Cyborg Green case (Don't bull**** me Antec 900 will do)
Terra Green lighting (some more bull****)
Alienware Standard system Cooling (even more bull****, aircooling will do fine for OCing your q6600 to 3.6ghz, if your really into it go for WC)
Alienware Acoustic Dampening (biggest bull****)
Alienware 750 Multi-GPU Supply (Further bull****, Corsair HX-750)
Single 512MB GDDR5 ATi Radeon 4870 (+1 Finally something that isnt bull****, maybe 4870X2?)
The video optimizer (?????)
4GB Low Latency DDR2 SDRAM (OCZ Ram plz)
300GB 10,000RPM HDD (If you REALLY need a 10k RPM drive get a 72GB one for your OS, and a 7.2k 500GB+ one for your data storage)
4x Dual Layer Blu-Ray Burner (Who burns blu-rays?)
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi 7.1 (+1 OWNS ONBOARD SOUND)
24" Monitor (+1 Great monitor get a Samsung 24" something, cause we all know samsung has the best panels)
Everything else is up to your own taste.
| Missing motherboard, might i suggest a 780i eVGA? or even a 750i FTW -----------------This post was merged together. In future use the edit button.----------------- Quote:

And an Gefore GTX 260 or GTX 280 graphic card. Again ATi vs nVidia, the 4870X2 smashes bot of them and is cheaper, but its up to you.
Went getting a new pc it with good budget it mostly always better to build it yourself or get a friend to do it. It will put around $300 back in your pocket or in your machine with that budget. So why did you recommend him ibuypower? Self contradiction?
BTW: The Intel Q6600 Quad ($210) is better is then most powerful processors out there for AMD "Phenom 9950" ($289) ATM Intel total pwn amd with there 45nm Quad.
Here is a good combo: IBuyPower Computer :: Intel Core 2 Duo Configurator | Sorry for double posting but.... some more "constructive criticism"
