I suggest people reading this if you think you got a virus on your computer. Quote:
To start off, you should never click on any links that seem suspicious or has a “.exe” after it’s link. Better yet, don’t click on anything that hasn’t been verified as safe. Never, EVER, go to any websites stated in-game by those frauds; it's either been infected with spywares or have been keylogged.
Some key terms that you may find after scanning your computer: Malware: modifies system settings, and can perform undesirable tasks on your system. Hiijacker: redirects your browser to web sites. Dialer: dials a service, most likely porn sites, for which you are billed!. Trojan Horse: is attached to a program, and performs undesirable tasks on your system. Collectware: collects information about you and your surfing habits.
There are free programs that help you against spy ware (s). Some that I personally use are the following: Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition (click on this)
With the ability to scan your RAM, Registry, hard drives, and external storage devices for known data-mining, advertising, and tracking components, Ad-Aware SE easily can clean your system, allowing you to maintain a higher degree of privacy while you surf the Web.
Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition boasts a number of improvements. Extended memory scanning now scans all modules loaded by a process. Scanning uses the all- new CSI (Code Sequence Identification) technology to identify new and unknown variants of known targets. Extended Registry scanning now scans Registry branches of multiple-user accounts and performs additional smart checks to detect dynamically created references. Scanning speed is noticeably faster, and this version offers an Extended Scanning mode for known and unknown/possible browser hijackers. Spybot Search and Destroy (click on this)
Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove a multitude of adware files and modules from your computer. Spybot also can clean program and Web-usage tracks from your system, which is especially useful if you share your computer. Modules chosen for removal can be sent directly to the included file shredder, ensuring complete elimination from your system. For advanced users, it allows you to fix Registry inconsistencies related to adware and to malicious program installations. The handy online-update feature ensures that Spybot always has the most current and complete listings of adware, dialers, and other uninvited system residents.
And of course, one of my favorite free software: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (click on this)
AVG Free Edition is the well-known antivirus protection tool. AVG Free is available free of charge to home users for the life of the product. Rapid virus database updates are available for the lifetime of the product, thereby providing the high level of detection capability that millions of users around the world trust to protect their computers. AVG Free is easy to use and will not slow your system down (low system resource requirements). Highlights include automatic update functionality, the AVG Resident Shield, which provides real-time protection as files are opened and programs are run, free Virus Database Updates for the lifetime of the product, and AVG Virus Vault for safe handling of infected files. SpyWare Doctor 5 (Click on this)
Spyware Doctor is a spyware remover and provides real-time anti-spyware protection against spyware, adware, Trojan horses, keyloggers, spyware cookies, adbots, spybots, browser hijackers, phishing attacks and other malware threats. Additionally it actively protects web browsing using Internet Explorer with a built-in popup blocker and malicious site guard. Spyware Doctor is easy to use and low on PC resources and its scanning speed is delivered by multiple specialized scanners. Almost any function of Spyware Doctor can be updated through the Live Update process. The OnGuard feature is designed to provide real time protection and deploys several tools that actively monitor and protect the PC from spyware attacks.
Version 4 adds an Instant Messenger (IM) Guard Tool to the OnGuard real-time protection. It also features a new ability to remove challenging new threats designed to elude elimination. The new version includes the option of creating a Windows System Restore point prior to threat removal. PC Tools Antivirus 3.0(Click on this)
[ForumTroller]
"Zone Alarm free firewall. Even if you accidently get a keylogger, it monitors outgoing traffic (when they send keystrokes) so you are triple protected." Zone Alarm (Click on this)
Online scanners (free trials): Panda ActiveScan (Click on this) Zonelab Scanner (Click on this)
Of course, there are multiples upon multiples of other free programs, but these are the primary one (s) that I use and trust.
However, let’s assume you’ve accidentally clicked on a link that’s been key logged/infected with spy ware and your current antivirus products aren’t able to cleanse the infected area. What should you do?
If it’s gotten to a very serious situation, do a system restore. A system restore is a handy program that’s located within any Windows XP computer. It has the ability to restore your computer to previous points, such as 1 day, 1 week, or even to restore the entire computer as if it were new. However, be certain when you do use system restore, you do not revert back to a previous day where there were also spy ware on your computer, because it may or may not trigger the spy ware to come up again.
In order to access your system restore:
Click Start button, then click on all programs, head to accessories, then to system tools, and click on system restore. From then on, I believe you can follow instructions as to how to restore your computer to a previous point.
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. |
