Just open up My Computer, and then double click your CD drive

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be anything wrong with his disk drive, or else he'd get an error. You might have somehow already have a file installed on the disk or your computer doesn't auto boot the CD. Go to "My Computer" and start the disk by clicking the Brood War icon. If that doesn't work, click Local Disk (C  , Program files, and look to see if theres a folder that says Starcraft. If there is, then it's already installed and you should be able to play it. If there isn't, then I'm not sure what's wrong.
