Basic mage

As requested:

Table of Contents:

1. Introduction
2. Basic Mage Stat Allocation
3.a. versus Mage
3.b. versus Archer
3.c. versus Ninja
3.d. versus Swordsman
3.e. versus Blacksmith

0. Introduction
I like this character due to the many bugs that are associated to mages, from what I can recall, most mages used to like to pump range because of the grip bug where after you front gripped (face your opponent click your left and right mouse button) you could do a jump attack and no matter where u aimed, it would still hit. Softnyx discovered the bug and changed it so mages started to pump basic (usually you get around 4 good hits, (two basic combos), before the grip finishes or you can do a chain stun grip, explained later.)Since I have recently just made a basic mage, because I personally prefer range mages (pumping range and amour) this guide is made mostly from tips and observations from a level 52 mage and a level 61 mage.
2. Basic Mage Stat Allocation
Due to mages already relatively good attack speed (not enough to stun grip if your opponent knows how to escape) I usually start off with about 15 Stat Points (SP) of move speed, this usually helps your bugging. (I will explain the various bugs later) Then I add basic for 50SP because with a front grip+ basic combo a mage with 50 SP in basic can take away nearly half of your enemy’s amour. Next I pump attack speed for 50 SP, at this point it is good to equip yourself with a weapon that gives you attack speed (for cash users it’s red moon, for gold users I’m not very sure) this gives you the ability to stun grip, and I think it helps in your bugging)After 50 SP in basic and attack speed, 50 SP in move speed is encouraged because you need to avoid most attacks from enemies if you wish to stay alive(also helps bugging). After this, put SP in amour and energy (1 SP in amour and 21 SP in energy) until it hits 50 SP for both amour and energy. After this you can add special and grip to 50 SP each (personal preference on which way you want to add, I like adding 1 SP in special for every 1 SP in grip) this helps you increase the amount of life each heal adds, and grip increases the damage that afflicts your enemy while in grip mode. (the grip that causes your enemy to freeze). Either grip or special also decreases the delay time experienced when doing your hurricane attack. Finally it is up to the player’s preference; you can choose to go for a hybrid build now with stats in range, cell destruction and cell points or carry on with your original build and max your speed, basic, grip, amour, energy and special.
3. a. versus Mage
Mages have two types, mainly basic mages which have good attack and move speed as well as a painful basic, and range mages which pump most of there stats into range, amour and energy. When fighting a basic mage you have to go around his side and basic, it is encouraged you only basic once because if your opponent turns quickly enough he can counter back with a grip that is extremely hurtful to a character with low amour and energy. If you manage to hit your first basic combo on his back continue on with the second basic because no matter how fast your opponent mage can turn, he cannot grip you in time. (Note: the same applies to you i.e. you can grip your enemy mage if he does a basic combo to your front.) If your enemy tries to do a stun grip on you, quickly jump back and if his attack speed is not fast enough, he/she will miss and do his/her hurricane move. Time your ice attack (double tap forward+ left click) so that you only do your ice attack when the hurricane is about to end, this helps you achieve an x2 hit. If fighting a range mage, it is simply a matter of avoiding his ices because even if he grips and does a basic combo, the damage is not that significant, and if he ices at a wrong time while your gripped, you won’t be knocked down and can go down there and whack him with a basic combo. Note for more experienced players, this technique requires very precise timing: after doing a grip+basic combo do not go around the back for your second basic combo, instead wait for your opponent to make the next move, if he jumps back quickly do your ice attack. If he stands still in shield form, do not stun but immediately grip him. If he starts to fight you back either go to shield form or do an ice attack.
3. b. versus Archer
Archers are only good at back stabbing in range form and in dagger form their jump attacks hardly seem to hit mages. You could either wait for them to do a jump attack or basic, stun grip (if you have enough attack speed) or do a basic combo. Usually the delay is enough to execute a grip without stunning after the archer has done a basic combo without stunning so you can try that.
3. c. versus Ninja
The two types of ninjas: range and grip are probably one of mages hardest enemies. Range ninjas are relatively easier to fight due to a bug where most jump shot’s do not hit unless your enemy has very precise aiming. When I fight a range ninja I usually wait for the ninja to jump attack then go around the back and do a basic combo. If you do a front basic combo be warned because the range ninja can counter with two types of attacks. Firstly the ninja can do a fake special where you will instinctively jump behind at that point of time the ninja will do a jump attack and because you are in the air, the ninja’s jump attack will probably hit. The second attack is that the ninja will do a special attack, this is extremely painful and is mages are advised to avoid it all costs (Note: personally I prefer avoiding the whole situation with a back basic combo as stated above but if you do find yourself in this situation, you can attempt to break his/her special with a stun grip, or for more experienced players do the stun then ice attack when he/she jumps backwards usually the ninja will be too surprised to react and will not move allowing you to complete your combo.) When encountering a grip ninja my personal advice is to get the hell outta there a ninja’s back grip can take away 3qarters to all of your amour away and with a ninja’s glide they can easily out run the mage. However, if you are unfortunate enough to be stuck in a 1v1 situation with a grip ninja, try to go around his/her side and do single basics, if your attack speed is high enough you could attempt to do a chain grip which is stun gripping then doing a front basic combo, waiting for ice to melt and then doing another stun grip this may work as grip ninja’s do not originally pump move speed (Note: this is extremely risky but rewarding. I have only seen people with low move speed falling for this combo)
3. d. versus Swordsman
I love fighting swordsmen especially when they decide to do their 3 basic combo, when they start their combo just keep walking forward and the 3rd basic will hit the air( only works with enough move speed) then I do a stun grip and usually this combo takes away half to 3 quarters of my enemy’s amour. If they decide to play stun grip to escape the 3rd basic combo, it does get more complicated but if you have good attack speed it is relatively easy to escape their stun grip. (Note: if they start a basic combo to your back, the bug will not work as you cannot turn around fast enough to escape the 3rd basic)(2nd note: my main character is a swordsman so I spend more time fighting basic mages rather than the other way round)
3. e. versus Blacksmith
The combination of a painful basic and high amour is not a very nice class to fight against. But with their slow attack speed and move speeds, I spend more time gripping them then doing basic combos. It is also harder to go around their back to do a basic combo because generally when equipped with a long weapon, the basic of a Blacksmith is very wide and hard to dodge.
