Well yeah at the first level Energy bolt have a high damage.
I would say that Magic Claw is way better it does 3 times the damage more then Energy Bolt.
I myself started a new Mage character because I upgrade the wrong skill.

OMG ENERGY BOLT!! AS IN THE BLUE BALL THINGY
It sux.
All guides that you read will say energy bolt only lvl 1 and magic claw ftw.
Even i say that. Energy bolt is a weak, short range attack.
Magic Claw is the most commonly used spell for mages Under 9-30

Rofl wow. this is still going on.
But basically, after some basic math, magic claw does more dmg per mp casted. (Check previous posts for proof)

Unquestionable, Magic Claw.. cause it does higher damage, and mostly u will use it still 3rd job.
