I’ve been ranting away in today’s morning post about id Software and John Carmack not divulging more goodies about the next Doom game during QuakeCon. From what we’ve heard, that wasn’t the only disappointment at the event. Quake fans were also left without a potential Quake 5 announcement. The news comes via GameSpot’s report. In other words, the QuakeCon 2008 wasn’t much of show (similarly to the E3).
John Carmack seemed to have poured most of the company’s efforts and attention to race/action game, Rage. After all, word has it that the game is closest to release out of all projects underway at id. Carmack spoke at the show on Rage and he commented on both PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles in the process.
Apparently, to the boys and girls at id Software, the 360’s DVD format turnout out to be very limiting, so much so that they couldn’t even fit Rage on 2 discs. Expanding the project on three discs would involve huge additional manufacturing cost and an extra disc fee from MS. Space isn’t a problem with PS3’s Blu-Ray. Regardless, Carmack still considers the Xbox 360 a superior platform when compared to Sony’s console.
