Rumor Round-Up: Mass Effect DS, Rock Band 2 Dates, Gears of War 2 Censored, and more!
Posted by GameLordquest, 106 days ago 10/08/2008

The Rumor Round-Up summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related gossip over the past week.  This weekly article, in conjunction with the Week in Review, will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

R-Type Dimensions has been unofficially revealed through Australia’s OFLC classification website.  The posting cites Tozai as the game’s developer, and it is speculated that the title will be coming to the 360’s XBLA.

In a blog called The Cut Scene from Variety, editor Ben Fritz reported that Sony Pictures, through a representative, confirmed that the studio is indeed working with Activision Blizzard "to evaluate various options surrounding the release of the ’Ghostbusters’ video game."  In fact, the game may be remarketed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original film in ’09.

A reader at Kotaku uncovered the Rock Band 2 console-specific release dates.  The sneaky employee of a major gaming store chain snapped photos of updated system screens of the product with their cell phone.  The screens show a staggered release for all consoles: Xbox 360: September 14th; PS3: October 19th; Wii: November 18th.

A job posting for MMO testers on the LucasArts site seems to indicate that there is in fact an MMO in the works.  Recently, rumors have been flying that this MMO will be based on the Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) universe because of LucasArts’ statement that they would be working on a project with BioWare, KOTOR’s original developer.

Gears of War 2 may in fact ship with a violence filter, much like the blood code of decades past for Mortal Kombat, in order to head off outrage at the proverbial pass.  The filter will actually turn blood and gore into a show of sparks and curtail the oft usage of cursing.

According to MTV Multiplayer, Mass Effect could be receiving more downloadable content in the future.  The developers at BioWare are really trying to support all their games with a lot of additional content in order to reward the consumer and foment a long-term relationship. Here’s what Bioware’s  Greg Zeschuk said on the topic of future DLC:

"With everything we build now, we want to have this long-term relationship with the customer and always have something for them to try. So we’re definitely looking at that for "Mass Effect."

There are even more Mass Effect rumors floating around.  According to BioWare’s Miles Holmes, the AAA developer is looking to translate its franchise to Nintendo’s handheld.  "We have a lot of big plans for Mass Effect.  Having a DS version would be an awesome way to keep interest alive and keep it going in addition [to Mass Effect 2]".

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
