At the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, last week, Sony stole news headlines thanks to a number of hardware-related announcements such as a new 160GB PlayStation 3 SKU, a redesigned PlayStation Portable, and a keypad that will clip onto the DualShock 3. The publisher also introduced European gamers to a pair of upcoming PlayStation Network titles: the third expansion to the Incognito-developed Warhawk: Operation: Fallen Star, and tower-defense strategy game Savage Moon.
Sony’s North American arm broke its silence on the two titles this week, confirming both will make their way across the Atlantic. For Incognito’s multiplayer-only action expansion, the wait won’t be long, as it will be included as part of this week’s Thursday PSN update.
As previously noted, Warhawk: Operation: Fallen Star adds 10 new battlefields set in a forested region known as the Tau Crater. The expansion will also introduce the Infantry Jetpack, which will allow foot soldiers to take the fight airborne among the Warhawk jets. PS3 gamers can pick up the add-on alone for $7.99, or through the Warhawk Booster Combo pack, which includes all three expansions for $15.99.
Sony has also offered a few more details on Savage Moon, which will arrive on the PSN later this fall. While the game shares the tower-defense genre with Q Games’ PixelJunk Monsters, the comparison can’t be taken much farther. In opposition to Monsters’ cute, Japanese-influenced visual aesthetic, Savage Moon resembles a scene out of 1997’s Starship Troopers.
In Savage Moon, players will be tasked with protecting mining facilities on asteroid bodies from Insectocytes, a species of lethal arachnid that comes in a variety of forms with different abilities and attributes. While specific gameplay details have yet to be revealed, players will attempt to guard their mines by erecting a gauntlet of heavy-weapons turrets, which can be upgraded as the matches progress.
