Capcom is shifting their company focus to sell more titles to Western audiences, according to Gamasutra. Currently 53% of sales from the Japanese developer and publisher are from Japan, but in the coming years they want to knock that number down to around 20 percent while simultaneously bringing European sales up to 30 and North America to 50.
Given the different region’s demands for different types of games, such drastic refocusing won’t occur without making a few additions or alterations. Capcom plans to expand in these areas through "friendly" acquisitions of Western developers and collaborations "with companies with an already established record for developing sports-related games." Additionally, Capcom reminds us, "All major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multiplatform games." Their wording of "multiplatform" is a bit unclear as it doesn’t indicate whether the Wii, PC, and portable devices are also included.
Capcom hasn’t indicated whether this sales shift will reduce the company’s number of titles made for the Japanese audience, but with Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G selling over two million copies as of early July, we’re guessing this is more of an expansion to their existing business rather than a cutting back or repurposing.
