Steve Demeter’s probably smiling right now. On July 11 the independent developer released the puzzle game Trism in Apple’s App Store. Since then, the game has generated over $250,000 in revenue, according to a report from Ars Technica. This translates to 800 downloads every day for the last two months.
Yet high download numbers don’t necessarily mean a lot of people are continually playing the game. Ars Technica reported earlier that although downloads are skyrocketing for multiple applications, repeat usage is actually very low, with the average number of uses per day sitting around 1.2.
Trism has sold well, but it’s still nowhere near the numbers put up by Sega’s Super Monkey Ball. On August 11, we reported that the motion-controlled game sold 300,000 copies in the 20 days following its release. Then again, Super Monkey Ball wasn’t developed by one guy....
